Iwobi Is Back To Social Media After AFCON’s Final Criticism
Super Eagles’ midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has come back to social media after going-off as a result of experiencing ‘cyberbully’ from Nigerians who were disappointed with his poor performance in the final match of AFCON 2023.
Iwobi deleted all his Instagram posts following criticism that came up against his performance at the AFCON’s Final.
The 27-year-old was subjected to cyberbully by Nigerian fans following the Super Eagles’ 2-1 final defeat to the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire.
Despite scoring first, Nigeria lost 1-2 to the AFCON 2023 Host, Cote D’Ivoire. The Ivorian team dominated the game and overpowered the midfield of the Super Eagles. Apparently, intimidated by the harsh criticisms, Iwobi deleted most of the videos and photos on his Instagram page.
The Fulham star, however, has received support from his teammates, the Nigeria Football Federation and Sports Ministry.
Football legend, Jay-Jay Okocha, an uncle of Iwobi, also defended the midfielder, and cautioned those criticizing the British-born player.
Iwobi has now shared a video on Instagram giving his fans and followers a glimpse of what he has been up to in recent times.
In the video, he also teased a snippet of what appears to be his unreleased rap song.
Some of his teammates including William Troost-Ekong, Frank Onyeka, and Kenneth Omeruo, took to the comment section to show their support for him.

Nigeria’s Striker, Ademola Lookman, Made History For Atalanta With His Hat-Trick
Nigerian super eagle player, Ademola Lookman, has made a global-stage history yesterday, Wednesday, May 22, 2024, as he secured Atalanta’s inaugural European victory, in the UEFA Europa League, with a remarkable hat-trick in the final match of the season.
He became the first player to score three goals in the final of this prestigious competition.
In addition, the 26-year-old Super Eagles striker put an end to Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten streak of 51 games.
Following the final whistle, Lookman was awarded the ‘Man of the Match’ title, and his entire team celebrated his outstanding performance. Lookman opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a skillfully executed goal.
He then extended his team’s lead in the 26th minute, before delivering an unstoppable shot in the 75th minute.
Despite Leverkusen’s attempts to turn the tide by introducing Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella in the second half, it proved to be too little, too late as the Bundesliga champions were thoroughly outplayed by the dominant Italians.
Congratulations to Ademola Lookman and all football lovers across the globe.

Who was Herbert Wigwe?
Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe, a luminary in the Nigerian banking sector, was born on August 15, 1966 in Isiokpo, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. As the CEO of Access Holdings Plc, traded as Access Corporation, Herbert Wigwe carved a niche for himself in the world of finance.
From humble beginnings to a banking titan
Wigwe’s academic journey was as impressive as his professional ascent. With a degree in accountancy from the University of Nigeria and further education in Banking and Finance, Financial Economics, and an executive program from Harvard Business School, he was well-equipped for the challenges ahead.
His career began at Coopers & Lybrand, Lagos, before moving to GTBank, where he spent over a decade honing his skills in corporate and institutional banking. The turning point came in 2002 when he and Aig-Imoukhuede took a bold step by investing in Access Bank, then a small player in Nigeria’s banking industry.
Under Wigwe’s visionary leadership, Access Bank transformed into a powerhouse, now serving over 6.5 million account holders and ranking among the top 500 global banks. His roles extended beyond banking, as he served in various capacities, including as the Chairman of Access Bank Ghana Limited and a member of several prestigious boards.
A legacy of innovation and philanthropy
Wigwe’s impact was not limited to banking. His passion for philanthropy led him to establish the Herbert Wigwe Foundation, fostering education and entrepreneurship in Nigeria. His dedication earned him the Order of the Niger (CON) and admiration from peers and the public alike.
The dream of Wigwe university
Perhaps Wigwe’s most ambitious project was the establishment of Wigwe University. Launched with a $500 million investment, the university aimed to revolutionise higher education in Nigeria and West Africa. With a focus on management, science, engineering, and the arts, Wigwe University was set to provide world-class education, blending traditional methods with innovative technology.
The university, situated in Isiokpo, Port Harcourt, was approved by the National Universities Commission in June 2023. Its curriculum was designed to address critical sectors such as finance and technology, while also nurturing leadership and entrepreneurial skills.
Wigwe’s vision was clear: to create an institution that could compete globally, yet remain distinctly African. He planned to recruit top teaching talents from around the world, focusing on making education a tool for shaping fearless, innovative leaders.
An unparalleled educational experience
Wigwe University promised not just academic excellence but a holistic approach to education. Sports, arts, and practical experience were integral parts of its curriculum, ensuring that students received a well-rounded education. The university’s inaugural batch was expected to be a diverse group of 1,400 students, with plans to increase enrollment significantly over the next five years.

AFCON 2023: Peseiro to blame for Nigeria’s defeat – Bovi
Popular comedian Bovi says Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro is responsible for Nigeria’s defeat against Cote d’Ivoire in the final of the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.
Super Eagles fell 2-1 to the hosts, Cote d’Ivoire, on Sunday as the hosts won their third ever AFCON trophy right in front of their home fans.
Taking to his X handle, Bovi blamed coach Peseiro’s tactics for the three-time African champions’ defeat.
He knocked Peseiro’s strategy of relying on defense, stressing that he would have still not been pleased should Nigeria had won.
Bovi wrote: “Blame the coach. We are a footballing nation of flare. Fluidity, through passes, dribbles, attack. Not all out defence. Even if we’d won, I would still be pissed. The style was evidently alien to the players.”
