Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Hope Samuel, has called for a positive change in the approach of the movie industry to the essential issue of health care.

The actress said this in an interview session – as she emphasized the importance of inclining a high priority on self-care. She suggested organizing programmes to teach actors and movie-crew members how to look after themselves rather than putting their entire attention on their jobs only.

In her words: “We need change. If I were put in charge, l will organize seminars on how to take care of ourselves while we are still strong. A lot of us work, work and work without taking good care of ourselves and before long, we fall sick and begin to treat ourselves with our life’s savings, because of neglect over the years.”

“People are dying and falling sick because of total disregard for their well-being. This is not right”

Nollywood stars who have recently passed away due to health issues include John Okafor (also known as Mr. Ibu), whose leg was amputated due to blood clot issues; Jimi Solanke, who died while being transported to a hospital; Deji Aderemi, who fought an undisclosed illness; Amaechi Muonagor, who died battling kidney disease; and Sisi Quadri who died after a brief illness.

Hope Samuel is really passionate this, as she is seriously advocating for actors to give top priority to their health and general well-being.

She is a talented actor – and over the years, has produced movies, which include ‘Kiki’s Dilemma’, ‘Sweet Candy’, and ‘The Love I Found’. She also featured in movies, which include ‘Cold Vengeance’, ‘Devil’s Orchard’, ‘Whispering Notes’, ‘Long Way Home’, ‘Ink of the Gods’, ‘Akawo’, and ‘My Last Life’.

Renowned music executive and producer, Michael Collins Ajereh, famously known as Don Jazzy, had recently offered tips to fans on how to handle critics.

He urged fans not to be agitated or distracted by criticisms especially at the time that have achieved success as a result of the attainment of their goals – because the critics never cared or bothered about them when they were striving to achieve success.

More so, he said paying attention to critics is a form of distraction and setting for discouragement, as critics would always speak negative things in order to cause demotivation that could lead to inability of achieving success.

Don Jazzy, On Saturday, May 18, 2024, shared this on his ‘X handle’; where he wrote: “Nobody gives a damn about you when you are suffering and grinding. If you give a damn about what people think about you when you make it, then you didn’t learn anything in the come-up and will be back suffering in no time.”

“Worrying about what people think about you in your ‘grinding phase’ and your ‘made phase’ is a distraction” – he concluded.

Be yourself, believe in yourself, and keep your motivation alive always, so you can fervently be of the ability to pursue and achieve your goals. don’t listen or heed to what critics say about you, to pull you down. Ensure you give words of affirmations to yourself, every day.

Renowned music executive and talent manager, Asa Asika, has talked about how he made his first one million naira in the entertainment industry, in 2006.

Asika, who is the manager of megastar Davido, in a recent interview, recalled and talked about his journey into the entertainment industry.

Thus, he talked about his beginning cum early era in the entertainment industry — from performing as a DJ to organizing some of the biggest parties and concerts in Nigeria.

In his words: “I cannot remember what I spent my first one million on. I got my first one million naira doing bookings for a show. And at that point in time, I do not think I had opened a bank account. So I had the N1m sent to my dad’s account. This was around 2006 or 2007. My dad knew I was a hustler. But I guess the figure at that point in time was very loud. I think I booked like five artistes.”

“I think I had my dad give me some of the cash. It was just on nonsense. Buy credits for babes. Just random stuff. I cannot boast of one good thing I did with that money.

Asika also spoke about his family ties with Obi Asika, the Director-General, National Council for Arts and Culture, NCAC and how his uncle contributed to his career.

In his words: “I never had any interest in entertainment. I ended up working in entertainment…as there used to be these guys who used to make music. One day, they walked up to me and said we are meeting with your uncle. I did not know the details then, but I knew my uncle works in the entertainment. I got home and told my dad some group of guys want to meet my uncle. That was the beginning of how I found out what he does.”

“Off that, I started hanging out with Uncle Obi a bit. Paying attention to what is happening in music. I discovered my uncle had access to celebrities then. And the gain we had then was that when we had school parties, we got to have celebrities come around.

“… I started doing club-nights and I started growing. The first event was a party at ‘The Vault’ back in the day at Mega Plaza. A lot of people came for me to help them with song orientation. Banky W was like the first to hire me to do this thing. He paid me a N100,000 then for ‘Lagos Party’. We did a club tour.”

“It is just a thing of working with other people. So for example, during that period, that is when I opened my own company properly. Stargaze is a business company I merged with The Plug” – he concluded.

Asa Asika is a Nigerian talent manager, internationally known as Davido’s manager, and the co-founder of ‘The Plug’ – a Management, Music Publishing, Music Licensing, Music Distribution & Entertainment Company.

Famous Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie, has urged movie producers in Nigeria to desist from making movies that project Nigerians as clowns and uncivilized when they travel abroad.

He remarked that movie producers are blemishing the image of Nigeria with those kinds of storylines and movie productions.

He went further to advise movie producers to tell stories and make movies that will show where Nigerians travel abroad and proffer traditional solutions to problems and become leaders over there.

Yul Edochie made this expression via his Instagram page, where he wrote: “I wish our producers will stop making films where Nigerians travel abroad, dey mumu. We sell ourselves short with such storylines.

“Oyibo people will never make a movie where a white man is foolish on African soil. Instead, they’ll make the white man smarter than all the Africans in the movie.”

“It’s intentional. They use movies to sell themselves as superheroes, while we use ours to run ourselves down.

“Let’s make movies where a Nigerian goes abroad and becomes the focal point for Oyibo people.”

“He or she always walks with shoulders high, with so much pride and dignity. Always on Nigerian wears. And teaches Oyibo people beautiful things they never knew about us. Offers traditional solutions to problems and becomes a leader over there.”

“Let’s sell ourselves as superheroes as well” – he concluded.

Veteran record producer and music executive, Olumide Ogunade, popularly known as ID Cabasa, has narrated the exit of his former signee, Olamide, from his record label, ‘Coded Tunes’.

ID cabasa made the narration when he appeared on the ‘Afrobeats Podcast’: he said he cried when Olamide was exiting his record label – and it was so because of the love he has for Olamide.

He also said he tried to persuade Olamide not to leave, but Olamide insisted on leaving, and he had to give him his blessings.

In his words: “Olamide was 13 years old when I met him. He came to my studio with a friend who wanted to feature him on a song. His friend was not good musically. Olamide was quiet and unassuming. I gave him a beat, and he did 16 bars that changed everything. Olamide became more like a son to me.

“When he was about to leave my record label, we sat down to discuss it. It was painful to me. It wasn’t the pain of not wanting him to progress; it was the pain of seeing someone you love leave. I cried.

“I said, ‘Olamide, you should’ve waited o!’ He said, ‘Bros, I want to do something, and I’m sure, by your code, we might not be able to do some of them.’ We didn’t have a fight. I gave him my full blessings.”

Olamide left ‘Coded Tunes’ in 2012 and launched his record label, YBNL Nation.

Award-winning singer, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has stated the reason he is yet to have to have kids – and that he would have kids when it is the right time for him ot have such experience.

Burna Boy said he is not ready to be a father yet because he cannot give attention to kids for now, and that he won’t want to be such father, as he would like to be a responsible and caring father.

He expressed this in a ‘question-and-answer session’ during a recent Instagram live session with his fans. He remarked that he would have children when he has settled to start having his own family.

In his words: “Why haven’t I had kids yet? Bro, because I don’t want to have kids yet.

“Have you seen my mum the way she loves me? Have you seen my dad the way he loves me? I know I can’t give that to anyone right now with the life I’m living. So, until I’m settled, and I can be there for my children every day, I’m not having a kid.

“I feel like my kids deserved better than I got. And I got both my mum and dad, so you understand?”

On the issue of how it has been alleged that he is impotent, Burna Boy said: “When I see the bants and the things people say [about me not being able to have kids], I said this is unimportant. Let’s assume that it is true that I couldn’t even have kids, you know that there’s something called IVF. But that is not even true” – he concluded.

Having kids is a great task that fundamentally requires taking responsibility and paying attention to kids. Burna Boy has demonstrated this in his assertion of why he is yet to have kids. To be a responsible father is a great decision for any man to take. Fatherhood should be done with proper planning and a sense of commitment, especially to be able to train up children in good ways, so that they can be good members of the society, for a better society.
